The SCP Foundation
The SCP Foundation is an international organization devoted to the study and containment of anomalous objects and phenomena. Founded in 2001, the Foundation has amassed an extensive collection of anomalous objects and entities, which it uses to study and prevent the occurrence of further anomalous events. The SCP 087 is one of those anomalous objects which is the subject of this article.
In case you didn’t know, the SCP Foundation is a fictional organization that plays a role in various video games, books, and other media. The organization is known for keeping things that are too strange or terrifying to be made public.
These things are referred to as “SCPs” (or “Secure, Contain, and Protect”) and include things such as creatures that are inimical to humans or artificial intelligence gone rogue. On January 8, 2008, fan fiction exploded and experienced a surge in popularity. The first entries were called the “SCP series” and so the lore had started to take form.
What is SCP 087
SCP 087 is a game based on an SCP character of the same name. It is an endless stairwell in an undisclosed campus and is said to have been tagged as an SCP for the reason that people who took the stairwell disappeared.
This SCP is considered a Euclid Class SCP, meaning that this SCP is unpredictable and is yet to be understood. For it to be upgraded into a Keter Class SCP, it should be established that it poses a huge threat to humanity.
Video Games Based On SCP 087
The different associations that share the name SCP 087 have released their own versions of the game, each with its own unique features and storyline. Whether you’re a fan of horror games or just looking for something new to explore, you’ll definitely want to check out one of these versions.
The first ever SCP game for SCP 087 and SCP Foundation lore in general. This game was simple but unique in a way, that it opened the doors for a lot of subsequent SCP games that followed.
The gameplay mechanics are that the player needs to go down the endless stairwell at the behest of the SCP Organization to figure out what’s going on. From time to time SCP 087-1, a creature that resides within said stairwell will attempt to engage with SCP personnel but seems to be focused more on facing the camera than anything.
These engagements with said creature make for a lot of jumpscares. The sound of a crying child is constantly luring the player to investigate and
SCP 087 B
Regalis began developing an extended version of SCP-087 one week after the game was released by Haversine. The SCP was significantly divergent from the canonical SCP in Regalis’ version of the game. There are new additions, including brick hallways aside from stairwells, and new SCP creatures such as Red Mist and Cheshire Smile.
Regalis gained a lot of attention after SCP-087-B was released, after which Regalis began distributing it through various forums and YouTube videos. The environment was praised for being claustrophobic and for having unexpected jumpscares. Because the game became popular quickly, Regalis decided to expand it, even more, adding more rooms and random events (unofficially known as 0.2).
Regalis was inspired to make a bigger horror game with more content after SCP-087-B received a lot of praise, which subsequently became SCP – Containment Breach.
SCP Containment Breach
This is one of the most popular SCP 087 games out there and takes heavy inspiration from the first SCP game. The SCP Containment Breach video game is based on the popular web series of the same name. The game features five main characters and a number of unlockable features. It’s a point-and-click adventure game, and you’ll have to solve puzzles in order to progress.
The game takes place at a research facility where an experiment has gone terribly wrong. The result is that all the scientists have become possessed by various different and dangerous paranormal entities. You’re in charge of one of the researchers, and your goal is to find a way to stop the madness before it gets out of control. There are plenty of other characters to meet, and you’ll get to explore several environments as well.
SCP 087 is a classic horror game that has been released in multiple forms. SCP 087 is, in essence, a horror story about an entity that takes the form of a man and that haunts an abandoned building while it tries to communicate with people. SCP 087 was first published by Haversine in 2006.
What makes SCP 087 so popular is that it is a game that can be played and enjoyed by multiple people at the same time – each of them experiencing something new in the game while trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
It’s also a game that you can play in short bursts, and you won’t have to spend too much time thinking about what you just experienced. The thrill of exploration, knowing that something could be lurking around the next corner, combined with the fear of the unknown makes for a great experience every time.
SCP 087 opened up the lore to the mainstream and has since spawned so many indie and commercial games. It’s only going to get better and better as more and more developers and studios take interest in the fan base as it grows in number.
