The Halo games in order is a series of first-person shooter video games created by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios. The series centers on an interstellar war between humanity and an advanced alien race known as the Covenant. The Covenant, led by their religious leaders called the Prophets, worship an ancient civilization known as the Forerunners, who perished in combat with the parasitic Flood.
The central character of the series is Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, or “the Master Chief”, a genetically enhanced super soldier who is the only character to appear in all Halo games to date. The term “Halo” refers to the Halo Array: a group of enormous, ring-shaped superweapons that were built by the Forerunners to destroy the Flood. They are similar to the Orbitals in Iain M. Banks’s Culture series.
According to the popular video game marketplace, igitems.com, the Halo series has spawned an extensive media franchise including novels, comics, toys, and animated series. The Halo franchise is one of the most popular and best-selling franchises in the gaming industry.
